Sandstone Brook Becomes Our First Veteran Friendly Care Home

Our brand-new care home, Sandstone Brook, has proudly become the first Anavo care home—and only the second home in the whole of Shropshire—to receive the prestigious Veteran Friendly Care Home accreditation.

Veteran Friendly Accreditation

This nationally recognised certification, awarded in partnership with the Armed Forces Covenant and supported by the NHS, highlights care homes that go the extra mile to understand and support the unique needs of veterans. For Sandstone Brook, the accolade is particularly meaningful, as it also marks a major milestone: the first Anavo home to be commissioned and opened under the group’s banner.

To receive this accreditation, Sandstone Brook met eight key standards, including:

  • Identifying residents’ Armed Forces status within care plans
  • Proactively addressing social isolation
  • Signposting residents and families to dedicated support services, including local Royal British Legion branches and other veteran support organisations

The accreditation ensures that veterans living at Sandstone Brook benefit from person-centred care that is informed, sensitive, and responsive to their lived experience. It also means staff have access to specialist training and are connected with networks that help veterans receive the best possible support—from emotional wellbeing to practical assistance.

Proud Team…

“Being recognised as a Veteran Friendly Care Home is a reflection of the compassion, dedication, and respect our team brings to residents every day,” said Sue Dutton, Home Manager at Sandstone Brook. “It’s an honour to provide care that truly recognises the experiences and sacrifices of those who served.”

Anavo Partner Edward Moore added: “We are incredibly proud of Sandstone Brook for setting this benchmark—not only for Anavo but for the wider Shropshire care community. This recognition reflects our mission to create homes that are inclusive, welcoming, and rooted in a deep respect for every individual’s life journey.”

As VE Day 2025 is commemorated across the country and our care homes, Sandstone Brook’s award could not have come at a more fitting time—symbolising both remembrance and the commitment to care for those who once cared for us.
