And we know that everybody is different, with unique requirements, needs and personalities.

There’s lots
of love for
Wessex Lodge

A beautiful and very dear friend spent her final weeks at Wessex lodge. Her room was impeccable and they allowed friends and family to decorate it however we chose to. The staff at this care home went above and beyond, my friend was well cared for, always clean and tidy. The food was also great and family/friends are able to stay for a meal with their loved one for a small fee. Wessex lodge has long term residents who are provided with a varied entertainment schedule. It was a bonus to be able to use the outdoor space to relax and enjoy the sunshine. The end of life care provided was kind and compassionate. Medically trained staff were available to ensure that symptoms and pain were kept under control as much as possible. Wessex Lodge has some incredible staff who managed to comfort us during the darkest times and treated us like a part of the Wessex Lodge family.

M S

Friend of Resident

My son kindly drove me from Hertfordshire to visit my brother in Wessex Lodge. He is a resident following many strokes. In a very bad way, but with excellent care, he is surviving. We were very impressed with the lovely welcome we got – we arrived unannounced because I did not dare let them know in case things changed. My husband is in care in Herts after a bad fall, and he can’t walk. My brother was much better than I expected. His carer helped him with his coffee – we were also welcomed with coffee. A 2 1/2 hours drive I may not be able to do again. The home is excellent, and so are the staff!

J K

Mother of Resident

My darling father spent his last few weeks at Wessex Lodge. We never wanted for him to go into a home, so emotions were running high. There was a minor issue with his room on the first day, and this was resolved within minutes. Every day we got to know more and more of the staff, who were fantastic. They were so friendly and caring to us, as well as my father. My advice (to anyone else finding themselves in this situation) would be to get to know all of the staff, – cleaners and admin, carers and nurses. The more you give the more you get. They all work so hard, and although there are some stressful moments for everyone (which is understandable given the circumstances of the home and its residents) they are all genuinely lovely people who want to make the residents as comfortable and happy as they possibly can. Thank you to the whole team for allowing my father to travel through his last weeks with dignity, in a place that was the next best thing to his home with his beloved family.

Sarah L

Daughter of Resident

My father was admitted to Wessex Lodge on October 22’ until Oct 23’. The nursing home facilities met the needs of my father who had his own en suite room that had a homely feel which made him settle in quickly. The home also has its own lounge, garden and dining area enabling him to socialise with other residents and they had regular events for the residents. The nurses and carers were on hand 24/7 and showed a lot of love and care for my father as well as all the other residents. I would highly recommend this nursing home.

Neil M

Son of Resident

For six months, my mother was a resident of this home. Throughout her time there, she was treated with compassion and a level of care that I considered to be outstanding. The staff at the home, from most senior to most junior, really took the trouble to get to know her and in her last weeks of life, took particular care to ensure her end of life was comfortable, calm and peaceful.

I commend the home on their outstanding level of care.
