Residents at Wessex Lodge Nursing Home in Whitchurch are enjoying the many benefits of gardening, friendship and community spirit thanks to the launch of a brand new gardening club, ‘Wessex in Bloom’.
The new club has already proven to be a huge success, bringing residents together to enjoy meaningful activities outdoors while nurturing plants, herbs, flowers, fruits and vegetables.
To make the launch even more special, volunteers from Whitchurch in Bloom joined Activities Coordinator Gemma and residents for a hands on planting session. Together, they prepared vegetable trugs and planted a variety of seeds, with volunteers sharing their gardening knowledge, encouragement and plenty of conversation along the way.
The collaboration created a wonderful sense of community, giving residents the opportunity to connect with local volunteers, learn new skills and enjoy time together in the fresh air.
A spokesperson for Wessex Lodge Nursing Home said:
“Wessex in Bloom has been a fantastic way to bring residents and the local community together. Gardening offers so many benefits, from boosting wellbeing to creating opportunities for social interaction and shared achievement.
“Our residents thoroughly enjoyed planting herbs, flowers, fruits and vegetables, and they’re already looking forward to watching everything grow and flourish over the coming months.”
The gardening club forms part of Wessex Lodge’s ongoing commitment to providing enriching, person centred activities that support wellbeing, independence and community connection for residents.
