Sandstone Brook Food Festival Raises Funds for Whitchurch Food Bank

Residents, families, staff and members of the local community came together for a multicultural Food Festival at Sandstone Brook Care Home.

The event raised £197, with £147 used to purchase items from Whitchurch Food Bank’s “most wanted” list. The remaining £50 will be donated to the care home’s residents’ fund. The food bank items were presented at Sandstone Brook on 26 August.

The festival celebrated the different cultures and family traditions of Sandstone Brook’s staff and residents through food from around the world.

The much-needed items were presented to representatives of Whitchurch Food Bank at Sandstone Brook on 26 August 2026.

Home Manager Sue said:

“We have a wonderfully multicultural team and wanted to celebrate the backgrounds and heritage of our staff and residents. Our open-door approach means everyone is welcome, and the event was a lovely way to bring families and the wider community together.”

Activities Coordinator Emma organised the festival, which featured homemade dishes inspired by Zimbabwean, Indian, Mexican, French, Italian, Dutch, American and British cuisines.

Highlights included Indian plantain fritters made by carer Rahul’s family, Zimbabwean breakfast doughnuts prepared from carer Ruvarashe’s family recipe, French onion soup, homemade choux buns and pizzas cooked by Kitchen Assistant Martin. Six-year-old Ezra, the grandson of a staff member, proudly hosted the Mexican nachos stall. Every stall sold out.

Emma, Activities Coordinator said:

“The festival was filled with fun, togetherness and a shared commitment to supporting Whitchurch Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who cooked, served, donated and joined us, you made the day truly special.”

The event was both a fundraising and intergenerational success, celebrating culture, family and community while supporting an important local cause.
