Surbiton Care Home Resident’s Big Brother Dream Comes True

We are proud to share a heart warming story of a carer who went above and beyond to grant the wish of one of our residents at our Surbitonian Gardens care home in Surbiton. Teresa, one of our much-loved residents, had a dream to attend a live Big Brother show. Thanks to the creativity and dedication of our Team Leader Alice Boothroyd, that dream became a reality.

Having been a resident at Surbitonian Gardens for 2 years, Teresa, 68, who lives with cerebral palsy and learning difficulties, has always been full of life, humour and enthusiasm. When she first mentioned her wish to go to Big Brother, Alice wasn’t sure it would be possible. But Teresa’s excitement and perseverance was contagious, and so Alice took on the challenge, from securing tickets to arranging transport and planning Teresa’s outfit and hair, every detail was carefully considered.

“It felt like getting ready for a girls’ night out” said Alice. “We did her hair, makeup, and she just lit up.”

The big night exceeded all expectations. Teresa was greeted warmly at the studio, with the presenter taking time to chat with her during the breaks, even giving her a special hug and inviting her to return for the live finale.

“Seeing Teresa so happy and glowing with excitement made it all worthwhile.” said Alice

At Surbitonian Gardens,  we take pride in creating experiences that brighten our residents’ lives. Teresa’s night out to attend Big Brother is a perfect example of the magic that can happen when caring people go the extra mile. We are so thrilled for Teresa and grateful to Alice and the rest of the team involved who helped make her dream come true.
