A playful challenge on Facebook turned into a week of fun, teamwork and friendly competition as Brampton Lodge care home and Brampton Lodge day centre went head-to-head in the first Battle of Brampton.
It all began after a game of prize bingo. Having missed out on the prizes, the day centre challenged the care home through a Facebook video. The care home responded, and the Battle of Brampton was born!
From Monday to Friday, residents and day centre clients took part in a different activity each day, competing for the chance to lift the first Battle of Brampton Cup.
The care home took an early lead with a win at Monday’s table tennis, before the day centre levelled the score with victory at Tuesday’s bowling. Wednesday’s target game put the care home back in front, but the day centre’s volleyball win on Thursday meant everything rested on Friday’s final.
The deciding chair football match began with the national anthem, setting the scene for an exciting finish. Both teams gave it their all, with the match ending in a remarkable 19–19 draw. A penalty shootout followed, and the care home held their nerve to become the first winners of the Battle of Brampton Cup.
Individual efforts were celebrated throughout the week too. Each team had a player of the match every day, with winners receiving a mini trophy and medal in recognition of their contribution.
Beyond the scores and silverware, the event was about bringing Brampton’s two communities together. Residents and day centre clients enjoyed each other’s company, encouraged their teammates and shared the excitement of a little friendly rivalry.
The week was warmly received by families, visitors, clients and residents, and the team is looking forward to making it a regular event. Future challenges could take place over a single day or a full week, creating more opportunities for everyone to come together.
Congratulations to the care home on their victory, and a huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the first Battle of Brampton such a success.

Caring for those you love can be tough. But you need to be kind to yourself, too.
