Congratulations to Wessex Lodge Nursing Home in Whitchurch which was given the ‘Good’ rating following an unannounced CQC inspection. The home was assessed across five categories – safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership, achieving ‘Good’ ratings across all criteria.
Inspectors spoke to a number of residents who told them that they feel safe and secure. The inspectors noted “there were enough numbers of staff to support people safely and according to their needs.”
The inspectors also acknowledged that the service achieved good outcomes for residents. One resident said: “Most of all I would like to commend the level of care we get here, I’ve never had such wonderful personalised care from carers. You never feel embarrassed. I thoroughly recommend it as a place to come. I can recommend with confidence they won’t let you down.” Another person’s family member said: “Mum is always happy and content. She has been there nine years. They know her well and we are over the moon.”
Offering long-term nursing and dementia care as well as short-term respite care, Wessex Lodge Nursing Home promotes a person-centred approach which provides residents with independence, compassion and empathy. The home also plays a vital role in the local community, making available not only a sanctuary for elderly loved ones, but employment opportunities for people keen to contribute to society.
Michelle Hart, Home Manager at Wessex Lodge, was full of praise for her co-workers, saying “I am very proud of the team, who are doing such a great job ensuring that residents are happy, well cared for and engaged in the many activities the home provides.”
