Last week, Anavo brought together residents, colleagues, families, local businesses and communities for its biggest fundraising challenge to date ‘Miles That Matter’.
Held from the 12th– 19th September during Care Workers’ Week, the challenge saw all 16 Anavo homes collectively run, walk, cycle and swim more than 30,000 miles, with even a horse rider contributing to the remarkable total.
Each home took on the challenge in its own way, organising activities that enabled residents, colleagues, families and members of the wider community to get involved. These included sponsored walks, cycling challenges, danceathons, supported movement and individual challenges.
Activities within the homes were adapted around residents’ individual abilities, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to participate. Whether walking laps of the garden, dancing, taking part in seated movement or completing a personal challenge, every contribution counted towards Anavo’s collective achievement.
The original goal was to travel 500 miles, representing the distance between Anavo’s homes. Thanks to the extraordinary commitment of everyone involved, the company exceeded this target many times over, recording a final distance of more than 30,000 miles.
The challenge was organised to raise £10,000 for Anavo’s Charity of the Year, The Care Workers’ Charity, which provides practical and financial support to people working across social care.
Fundraising is still ongoing as Anavo works towards its £10,000 target. Several homes have raised £1,000 through their individual fundraising pages, while Feltham Construction generously contributed a further £1,000 donation.
Anavo’s Senior Leadership Team also took on some of the week’s biggest challenges. On 16 September, founders Ed Moore and Jamie Braganza, alongside Development Director Chris Stone, set off on a 260-mile cycle between six Anavo homes. They tackled almost 6,000 feet of elevation over three days before finishing at Homewell Spring, Anavo’s newest care home in Havant, which is due to open in October 2026.
Commercial Director Simon also completed a half marathon alongside a group of Anavo colleagues from Lancing Beach care from to Lindridge Care home and back. Members of the Senior Leadership Team joined residents and colleagues at events across the country throughout the week.
Edward Moore, Founder of Anavo, said:
“Miles That Matter brought the whole Anavo community together, and what we achieved collectively was incredible.
Our original aim was 500 miles, so to see our 16 homes cover more than 30,000 miles through running, walking, cycling, swimming and even horse riding was beyond anything we could have imagined.
Most importantly, everyone was able to take part. Residents, colleagues, families, local businesses and communities all contributed in ways that worked for them.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who participated, donated or supported the challenge. Fundraising remains open, and we hope people will continue to support us as we work towards our £10,000 target for The Care Workers’ Charity.”
Every mile completed and every donation received will help support the people who dedicate their working lives to caring for others.

Caring for those you love can be tough. But you need to be kind to yourself, too.
