Getting close to nature is a known remedy for improving well-being. Breathing in the fresh air, the sense of peace and tranquillity, the sights and sounds of all the flora and fauna. At Anavo, we’re passionate about the health and happiness of residents, ensuring they take a calm moment to relax and feed their soul. And the beautiful garden at Alexandra Mill helps them to do just that.
Winter can be a challenging month for everyone with the short days. Keeping a positive mindset can often be tricky for some. That’s why the team at Alexandra Mill signed up to take part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch 2024. The idea was to bring the residents closer to nature on the cold dreary days in January.
To ramp up the excitement for the main event, the home organised a variety of bird centred activities including a variety of artworks such as a beautiful bird collage. The made bird feeders and placed them around the care home’s gardens and terraces to attract their local feathered friends.
On the 26th January 2024, the official RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch 2024 began. Residents at Alexandra Mill took up their positions with binoculars at the ready. They spotted and counted a variety of native wildlife – robins, bluetits, blackbirds, magpies and sparrows to name a few.
The whole event was a hit. The residents enjoyed every minute of it. Not only was it something a little different to do, but it was also good for the soul and made them feel like they were doing their bit for nature.
