Last week, residents at Lindridge nursing home embarked on an unforgettable journey without ever leaving the comfort of the care home. “Cruise Week” was a resounding success – filled with laughter, live entertainment, meaningful moments, and flavours from around the globe.
Each resident received a personalised passport and cruise ticket for the Lindridge Liner, which officially “set sail” from Reception on Monday 7 July 2025. The check-in desk was buzzing with excitement as residents boarded, greeted by friendly staff dressed as the ship’s crew. A lively sail-away party followed, complete with a singalong to ‘We Are Sailing’ and the ever-popular cupcakes from our activities coordinator, Karen.
New York was the first stop. With city skyline visuals, iconic scenes and a nod to NYPD, residents enjoyed fresh iced doughnuts and coffee. Lunch transformed the space into a classic American diner, serving burgers, milkshakes, and Knickerbocker Glories—all with live entertainment from Keith Goodhall.
Next, the Lindridge Liner headed to Barbados. Residents dipped their toes in soft sand, lounged beneath palm-frond parasols, and were serenaded by steel pan music. Chef Fattah delighted everyone with authentic Caribbean cuisine, adding to the relaxed island feel.
The final destination was Spain, where a vibrant taverna setting brought the sounds, scents, and spirit of a Spanish fiesta. Chef Fattah once again delivered—this time with a fragrant paella. Residents created their own maracas and hand-painted fans before enjoying a traditional flamenco performance and Spanish guitar.
The cruise concluded in style with a fine dining buffet hosted by Lindridge Care Home Manager, Alex Mendonca—playing the role of captain for the evening. Residents snapped “porthole” photos with Alex and the team, while performer Bill Valentine brought classic songs to life during the final celebration.
Cruise Week at Lindridge nursing home was about more than themed activities—it was about sparking joy, encouraging connection, and offering residents something truly extraordinary. Events like this promote emotional well-being, offer sensory stimulation, and create lasting memories for both residents and staff alike.
Although this wasn’t a real voyage, the sense of adventure and togetherness was very real. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Lindridge team for bringing this vision to life—and to our residents for embracing it with such spirit.
At Anavo, we believe care should always include joy, discovery, and a sense of belonging. Lindridge nursing home provided that in droves.
