The Home Manager of Hailsham House Care Home is lacing up his running shoes to raise funds for a special resident-led garden project designed to enhance wellbeing, connection and quality of life for those living at the home.
Rui, Home Manager at Hailsham House, will be taking part in the upcoming Hailsham Community Run on Sunday 17th May as part of a fundraising effort to support the care home’s activities team in transforming the home’s outdoor space into an even more enjoyable and calming environment for residents.
Having previously completed charity runs in support of organisations including St Wilfrid’s Hospice earlier this year, Rui said this challenge feels particularly personal because it directly supports the people and place closest to his heart.
“Our residents have so many ideas, hopes and passions they still want to explore, and this project will be chosen by them, for them,” said Rui.
“Our garden is already a much-loved space where residents can relax, socialise and enjoy the outdoors, but we want to create something even more special that supports wellbeing and brings more opportunities for meaningful experiences.”
The planned project will focus on creating a welcoming and therapeutic outdoor environment that residents can enjoy year-round, helping to encourage social interaction, relaxation and activity.
“Hailsham House is very special to me, not just because I’m the manager, but because I truly love the home and the people who live here,” Rui added.
“Taking part in this run is my way of giving something back to the people who make Hailsham House such a warm, happy and caring place to live and work.”
The home is encouraging the local community to support the fundraiser, with all donations going directly towards enhancing resident experiences and bringing their ideas for the garden to life.
“By donating, you’re not just supporting a run, you’re helping to create meaningful experiences that enhance our residents’ quality of life. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a real difference.” Rui said.

Caring for those you love can be tough. But you need to be kind to yourself, too.
