Celebrating Culture and Connection at Burnside Care Home

On Friday 25th July, Burnside Care Home was filled with colour, rhythm and community spirit as residents, staff, families and visitors came together for a wonderful Culture Day celebration.

At Anavo, we believe in celebrating individuality, championing diversity and creating meaningful moments. And our Burnside Culture Day was the perfect example of this.

The day featured a delicious buffet with an array of flavours from around the world including homecooked Filipino dishes kindly prepared by our amazing team and local community. Our activities coordinator created a fun packed day ensuring the entertainment was inclusive for all to enjoy. Singer Julie Gillespie sang a variety of songs to suit all musical tastes. There was even a delightful surprise of a Highland dance performed by one of our very own talented staff members accompanied by a traditional Scottish piper.

And we can’t forget the showstopping performance from care assistant Michael. A professional dancer and entertainer in his home country of the Philippines, he did a solo performance followed by an uplifting group dance that saw staff, residents, and guests all up on their feet. A real highlight of the day!

The whole day brought such joy to residents, families and staff alike. Team members even came in on their day off to join in the fun.

As resident John’s family shared:

“It was warming to see staff from various groups coming together and sharing their time and talents… The staff dancing together was a highlight and they seemed to enjoy themselves too!”

With a raffle, music, laughter and so many happy faces, it truly was a day to remember.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, helped organise, and made the day so special.
