At Anavo, we believe care should be personal, purposeful, and full of life. That’s why we’re thrilled to invite you to Care Home Open Week 2025 — a week-long celebration across a number of our care homes from 16–22 June, where we’ll be opening our doors to share the real stories, people, and passion behind care.

What is Anavo’s theme this year?

Real Care, Real People: Breaking Myths of Care Homes.

Because care homes aren’t what many people imagine. They’re not quiet, clinical spaces tucked away from society — they’re warm, welcoming communities filled with laughter, music, resilience, and love.

What is Care Home Open Week?

Run by Championing Social Care, Care Home Open Week is a nationwide initiative designed to connect care homes with their local communities – this year with a focus on Music for Dementia. It’s about:

Opening minds to the reality of life in care, opening hearts to the incredible individuals who live and work in care homes, and quite literally, opening doors for the public to step inside and experience it for themselves.

Who We Are at Anavo

At Anavo, we do things differently. We’re not just about care — we’re about living well, ageing well, and working with purpose. Our homes are led by people who believe in the potential of every resident and the power of human connection. No matter your age, we believe there’s still more to explore, express, and enjoy.

We are shining the spotlight on this philosophy — and sharing the real voices and stories behind our care homes.

What’s Happening Across Our Homes

Each Anavo care home taking part will be hosting a series of free, family-friendly events and interactive experiences during the week. Here’s a little taster of some of the things you can expect:

• Memory Melodies – Discover the power of music in later life. Listen to residents’ personalised playlists, enjoy live performances, take part in music quizzes and dance through the decades.
• Tea & Truths – Chat with our team of carers and meet some of our residents and their families for honest chats about what life in care is really like — over homemade bakes and a cuppa, of course.
• Creative Corners & Activity Tasters – Get hands-on with the activities our residents love: from painting to gardening, dancing to crafting. See how creativity keeps minds and spirits active.
• Behind-the-Scenes Tours & Talks – Explore our care homes and meet the teams on guided tours highlighting lesser-known aspects of care home life or listen to one of our guest speakers and their first hand experiences of care.

Why It Matters

Public perception hasn’t always caught up with the progress happening inside care homes. Many people still imagine them as places of decline or disconnection. At Anavo, we’re proud to be part of a new generation of care — where wellbeing, independence, and a sense of purpose take centre stage.

We’re inviting you — whether you’re a neighbour, relative, job-seeker, or simply curious — to step inside and see the difference.

• Burnside Care Home, Laurencekirk – open 16th June 11am until 4pm
• Cochrane Care Home, Johnstone – open 20th June 10am until 4pm
• Lindridge Care Home, Hove – open 16th -22nd June 10am until 4pm
• Newark Care Home, Port Glasgow – open 19th June 11am until 4pm
• Ranfurly Care Home, Johnstone – open 17th & 19th June 11am until 4pm
• Sandstone Brook Care Home, Whitchurch, Shropshire – open 16th -22nd June 10:30am until 4pm
• Spiers Care Home, Beith – open 17th June 10:30am until 4pm
• Surbitonian Gardens Care Home, Surbiton– open 16th-18th June, 2pm-4pm (Tuesday timings TBC)
